Summer Reading and Assignments have been posted on www.lacademy.edu. If you do not see a course or department noted, this means that there is no assignment for that department or course. New students should check email in mid-July for their math and language placement results. Please refer to your course schedule in mid-August to confirm which course(s) you will be taking (if you are unsure at this time).
Be sure to contact the Academic Office at 978-448-1517 or firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions.
Have a great summer!
Cum Laude Society
Each year, the school community gathers for Cum Laude Day for the induction of juniors and seniors into the school’s chapter of the Cum Laude Society, a national academic honor society. Included in the ceremony is the awarding of book prizes and the presentation of the Greater Good Award to a Lawrence Academy graduate.
The Greek terms contained in the society’s motto, Areté, Diké, Timé (excellence, justice, honor), are explained during the assembly. Areté includes the concept of excellence in the moral sense and is not limited to the idea of superiority and scholarship, nor does it involve the endeavor of competing primarily for academic goals. Diké includes the concept of what is suitable and appropriate, as well as just. Timé includes the concept of dignity and truth, as well as honor.”
Students who become eligible for induction to Cum Laude are juniors who are within the top 10 percent of their class and seniors, joining current members, who are in the top 20 percent of their class. Membership, which also requires the demonstration of good character, honor, and integrity, is ultimately determined by a faculty vote.
