About the Band
New England Brass Band is the region's premiere British Brass Band. Under the distinguished baton of Director Stephen Bulla, this exciting 30-piece brass and percussion ensemble brings concerts and educational clinics to communities throughout New England, drawing the finest players from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Maine. NEBB's mission is two-fold: the group strives to present high quality musical performances that demonstrate the beauty and uncommon sounds of British Brass music as well as provide a challenging setting for musicians to continually improve their brass banding abilities.
The heart of the New England Brass Band’s repertoire is made up of outstanding music written especially for brass band, including substantial works by such renowned band composers as Eric Ball, Dean Goffin, Erik Leidzen, Kevin Norbury, Stephen Bulla, and James Curnow. The band also performs selections written and arranged especially for the NEBB, as well as transcriptions of classical works by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and Wagner and music from famed American composers such as John Philip Sousa and John Williams.
While the familiar American concert band is made up of both brass and woodwind instruments, the New England Brass Band follows the traditional British brass band instrumentation: cornets, flugelhorn, Eb tenor horns, baritones, euphoniums, trombones, tubas and percussion. The warmth and richness of this all-brass group creates an unique sound that is both full and nimble, sonorous and transparent. It is ideally suited for performance of a wide variety of music played at a high level by the members of NEBB.
