Learning About LA: A Win at Windsor Mountain
by Allie Goodrich '13
Windsor, NH — When new students and faculty arrived at Windsor Mountain in southwest New Hampshire for orientation before the start of school, they were greeted by pouring rain.
Yet the damp seemed to have little effect on the students’ spirits, who, as history teacher and Windsor organizer Kira Shaikh remarked, “packed outstanding energy and some sunshine with them.”
“I was blown away by their excitement for every activity, even if they were wet and chilly,” recalled Ms. Shaikh. “Their good spirits shined through during the campfire in the dining hall that night.”
The bonfire proved to be a major highlight of the trip, which has been an LA tradition since the mid 80’s and involves everything from trust falls to an early morning swim in the lake.
“Some new students had the courage to get up in front of about 140 other students and perform a joke, song, or story,” said Ms. Shaikh. “I am beyond excited to see what this new class can really do at Lawrence during their four years; they are outgoing, resilient, and their positivity is unbreakable.”
Added fellow history teacher Eliza Foster, “It was amazing to see how many new students were brave enough to get up in front of their peers and sing.
“It felt like we’d known each other for years.”
