Head Coach: Matt Smith | profile
Coach Matthew Smith comes to Lawrence Academy from Stratton Mountain School. Smith started the lacrosse program at Stratton and guided the team to a 42-18 record over six seasons. The Stratton Mountain School boys’ lacrosse team reached the state quarterfinals in 2014 and 2015 before winning the Vermont State Championship in 2016 and 2017. Coach Smith was recognized as the Vermont Division III Coach of the Year in 2017, and his team earned the state sportsmanship award in 2016. Before his time in southern Vermont, Smith coached at Wesleyan University, his alma mater. During his time as a player, Wesleyan advanced to the NCAA Division III final four. Coach Smith played high school lacrosse at Choate Rosemary Hall.
Assistant Coach: Andrew Healy | profile
A lifelong native of Sudbury, Mass., Andrew Healy graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury High School and attended Middlebury College. While at Middlebury, he majored in economics and Spanish and was a two-time national champion on their Division III men's lacrosse team. Andrew also completed a year of study at the Universidad SEK in Segovia, Spain, where he focused on Spanish literature and history. Following his graduation from Middlebury, Mr. Heal
y spent several years working as an apprentice carpenter on construction crews in Chicago and Boston. After a memorable experience coaching high school lacrosse convinced him to return to the academic world, he spent the next two years teaching Spanish, coaching football and lacrosse, and running the freshman dorm at the Salisbury School. Following his time there, Andrew lived for a year in Madrid, Spain, while completing a master’s degree in Spanish through Middlebury College. His thesis focused on intercultural education and the integration of immigrant students in Spain’s educational system. Andrew spent his most recent summer as a Spanish instructor at the Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy. A frequent traveler, Mr. Healy lives on campus and is an avid woodworker.
