Each spring on Cum Laude Day, the John Edward West Thompson Award for Service to the Greater Good is given to an alumnus who has used his or her education to benefit others.

Moreover, the Greater Good Award honors those who understand that education is not an end in itself, nor is it just a means to a good job. The award honors those who, in their actions, have demonstrated an understanding of their responsibility to use their education for the greater good of humanity.
