From an elm tree shaded hillside...

Dear Alumni and Friends,

Happy Halloween! In the spirit of spirits, I am happy to report that campus is alive with nothing but spirit this Spirit Week 2014 – pajama day on Monday, twin day Tuesday, Spartan spirit day Wednesday, pink day (for breast cancer awareness) Thursday, and Halloween on Friday, with our annual Spoon Hunt all week. Needless to say, we are invigorated, entertained, and very active!

The students are not the only entities on the move. This past summer, working with the Groton Historic Districts Commission, we moved what used to be LA 3 & 4, formerly known as Sheedy garage, across campus, preserving its fine architectural value and placing it between the Alumni Development House and Park House. This building will soon house a faculty apartment and help LA with its goal of having more faculty in residence on campus.

In its place, a new, 1,600-square-foot media conference center is on the rise. The conference center will have big screens installed that will use a Polycom HDX System so that people can communicate “in person,” no matter where they might be. This center will be used for classes, meetings, and conferences, connecting LA and the outside world, not to mention the LA Board of Trustees, the Alumni Council, and the Parents’ Association. LA constituents from all over the globe can be in touch.

The conference center should be ready by spring! Please follow this link for a personal tour of the two projects.

BTW: It’s not too soon for alumni and former faculty to start thinking about reunion! Please mark your calendars for June 5 – 6. We look forward to welcoming folks back to the Quad for this annual celebration. I’ll soon be sending more info on reunion, along with the nomination forms for the Alumni-Faculty Appreciation Award and the LA Athletic Hall of Fame…It’s not too late to RSVP for the LA Boston gathering at Church in the Fenway neighborhood on November 20…Lastly, you can wear your support for LA not only on your sleeve, but on your back as well, by getting your own special edition Lawrence Academy multiblazer. Multiblazer is a customer blazer company started in Colorado by L.A. alumnus, Luc Cisna ’94, and 40% of the sales directly benefit LA.
