Steven Engstrom
Head CoachSteven Engstrom joined Lawrence Academy in 2012 and is a member of the science faculty and the varsity volleyball head coach. Steve has a BS in marine and freshwater biology from the University of New Hampshire and an MS in biological oceanography from the University of Maryland. About LA, Steve says, "We know our students so well through classes, advisory, sports, dorm life, and travel on winterim. I love being able to use those strong relationships to help them grow as learners and as people in general." He lives on Campus in Dana House with his wife Kate, three children, Rylan, Elise, and Kellan. Steve likes to play volleyball, hike, play guitar, canoe, and windsurf. -
Brett Benzio
Assistant CoachBrett Benzio joined LA in 2019 and is a member of the math faculty, dorm head of Bigelow, and girls' varsity basketball coach. She has a BS from Tulane University and an MBA from Lynn University. Brett's favorite thing about working at LA is seeing the sunrises and sunsets from the hilltop. She lives on campus with her chocolate lab, Finn, and enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and puzzling.

Lawrence Academy competes in the 16-team Independent School League (ISL), which consists of selective college preparatory schools in and around the greater Boston area from as far north as Byfield, Mass., and as far south as Newport, R.I. All ISL schools are members of NEPSAC, the New England Private School Athletic Council, which governs all interscholastic play for independent schools in the Northeast.
