Facilities & Faculty
Lawrence Academy athletes practice and compete in state-of-the-art accommodations.
The Stone Athletic Center and Grant Rink sit side by side on campus and are home to all indoor Spartan sports, while eight playing fields, 10 tennis courts, and a cross-country course support outdoor student-athletes.
The hub of Lawrence Academy athletics, the 41,000-square-foot Stone Athletic Center houses two basketball courts, a volleyball court, a weight room and fitness facility, and modern athletic training and rehabilitation facilities. The space is also home to locker and shower space for home and visiting teams, coaches, and game officials, as well as administrative offices.
Next door, Grant Rink is meticulously maintained and has been the home of some of the area’s most memorable prep-school hockey matchups. Across campus, the Richardson-Mees Performing Arts Center and Black Box Studio in the Williams Art Center are homes for dance groups and theatre productions, both of which are offered as afternoon athletics options.
Outdoor athletes will spend their time in three different areas of the LA campus: Murbach Field is home to Spartan football, field hockey, and lacrosse teams, while field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and softball teams use the Spaulding-Stearns Fields. The Shumway Fields, located along Groton’s Main Street, include Baker Field for baseball and boys’ varsity soccer and Martin Field for girls’ varsity soccer. Tennis courts are situated beside Baker Field and overlooking Murbach Field.

"I think the biggest thing at LA that prepares you for college athletics and academics is the time management skills you learn, and how your coaches push you to do a lot of things independently."Tori Colautti, Class of 2019
