From Mr. Hess

New “book buyback” program
As a result of our partnership with a new textbook company, Barnes and Noble College K-12, LA families will now have the opportunity to get cash for used textbooks. This process is outlined below, but families will simply go online, create an account with BNCK-12, and get a quote for their books. Then they bring the printed quote and books to the EZ Drop Buyback at the designated times in the Student Lounge.

See the below brochure for full details and directions:

Community Service

Taking Action for the Greater Good We are in the final week to take action for the greater good (while also getting your community service hour requirement done). There are no more organized service projects for this year, except for the food collection (see below).

Have you completed your 6 hours for THIS year?
And any previous years you’ve attended LA?
LA’s community service requirement is six hours per year, every year of attendance. Note: we do not accept summer hours to satisfy our small six-hour requirement. Students should ask their advisors to look up what we have on file for each school year. LA offers projects on the weekends, however students can volunteer for a non-profit in or near their home community and send in their verification -
click here for more information.  Submit verification for this school year (9/1 through 6/12) by 6/14 to Tanya Clark (tclark@lacademy.edu).

PIN Recognition
Lawrence Academy has been awarded a monetary grant from the Parents’ Independent School Network, Inc. for the Rise Against Hunger, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, Spartan Collections, and Spartan Creations community service projects. Congratulations to all who participated in these community service projects!

Kaitlyn Nhi Nguyen Service Society
Established in 2022 by the Community Service Advisory Board in honor of Kaitlyn Nguyen ’22, who volunteered over 200 hours in three years, all through various Lawrence Academy-sponsored service projects. To become a member of the Kaitlyn Nhi Nguyen Service Society, a graduating senior must have volunteered an overall total of 100 or more hours for Lawrence Academy-sponsored community service projects. Kaitlyn was announced as the inaugural member at the last Friday assembly and the CS Advisory Board challenged other students to earn their place in the Kaitlyn Nhi Nguyen Society by they time they graduate.

Green Bag Collection
The last Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry food drop-off is this week! The final day for drop-off is June 9, in the student lounge. Let’s make this collection the largest yet!  We have no more green bags – you can use your own reusable tote bags or paper bags. They need to be FILLED with non-perishable items and your NAME MUST BE ON THE BAGS! Drop they off INSIDE Mrs. Clark’s office so you will receive the CS credit.

Remember: 2 bags = 1 hour
(Two hours max for food donations as CS hours.)
