The congratulations went out on Sunday. Still, the realization that Lawrence Academy will send three teams into action this Wednesday remained a happy distraction on Monday as the campus entered its first day of winter academic assessments and began preparations for Winterim.

LA’s varsity boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, and girls’ hockey will all enjoy berths in the NEPSAC (New England) playoffs on Wednesday, with both girls’ squads hosting here in Groton.

Coach Mike Foustoukos, Coach Kevin Wiercinski, and the boys’ varsity basketball team hold a No. 8-seed in the NEPSAC Boys’ Basketball Class AA Tournament. They will take on top seed Cushing Academy at Cushing on Wednesday, March 5, at 2:30 PM.

“We’re thrilled to have been selected for this year’s NEPSAC AA playoffs,” said Coach Foustoukos. “I’m incredibly proud of this team and how they’ve handled adversity throughout the season. Everyone has stepped up and played a key role in us getting to this point. We battled through injuries the first three months of the season.

“With everyone now healthy, we’re playing our best basketball at the right time,” he added. “We are looking forward to going out and competing against the best New England has to offer.

Coach Nikki Petrich, Coach Kevin Potter, Coach Andrea Tarr, and the girls’ varsity ice hockey team also hold a no. 4 seed in the New England Girls Ice Hockey Dorothy Howard Tournament (Small school bracket). They will take on the no. 5-seed, St. George’s School, at home on Wednesday at 4:00 PM.

"We are excited to be back in the playoffs," said Petrich, currently in her first year helming the Spartans. "We look forward to building off of the progress we made during the regular season."

Coach Emily Pratt, Coach Donna Mastrangelo, Coach Jacquie MacDonald, and the girls’ varsity basketball team enjoy the no. 4-seed in the NEPSAC Girls’ Basketball Class B Tournament. They will take on the no. 5-seed, St. Luke’s, on Wednesday, at home at 5:00 PM.

"We’re excited to host St. Luke’s in our Class B Quarterfinal matchup," said Coach Pratt. "It’s been a tight race to make the playoffs, and the tough competition we’ve faced in the ISL all season long has prepared our team for this moment.

"We’ve weathered the storm all season long, and now we just have to go out there and do it again on Wednesday. Let’s go!"

Let's go, indeed.
