Lawrence Academy Spartans vs. The Frederick Gunn School

2023 NEPSAC Boys' Ice Hockey Tournament Piatelli/Simmons (Small) Bracket

St. Anselm College • 2:30 PM

Groton, Mass. — LA's boys of winter extended the season to its full potential with a 4-3 Saturday afternoon victory over the New Hampton School Huskies in the NEPSAC boys' ice hockey semifinals Piatelli/Simmons tournament.

Brendan Hirsch '24 (Arlington, Mass.) netted a hat trick for the home-standing LA squad, with his third score sending the Spartans to the tournament final versus The Frederick Gunn School on Sunday at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown, New Hampshire, at 2:30 PM.

"Brendan has been a workhorse for us all year and has always played a heavy game," said LA Head Coach Robbie Barker of the junior forward. "Today, his relentless effort and work ethic paid off and was certainly a difference maker out there."

Early, the game was a back-and-forth affair, which saw the teams trade the lead in the first period. However, Hirsch's two first period goals and an added marker initiated by senior Sam Marcionni (Medway, Mass.) put LA on top 3-2 after one period.

But an early second period score by NHS knotted the game at 3-3 until Hirsch's third period goal put LA up permanently, setting up Sunday's game versus Gunn.

"I’m so proud of the guys in that locker room," added Barker, postgame. "They have put the work in all year and have stuck to the plan.

"Today was a tough win, but a win these guys earned.

"Not once all year through the ups and downs did they ever give up; they stuck together and have earned the right to play on Sunday," he said.

See you in Goffstown, hockey fans.
