Parents' & Family Weekend 2014
October 17-18, 2014
UPDATED: September 24, 2014
As we turn the page on September and head towards October, we hope the dates of Parents’ & Family Weekend 2014 (PDF) show up circled, highlighted, and starred on your virtual and paper calendars.
We are looking forward to Friday and Saturday, October 17 and 18, with great excitement and anticipation. The weekend is designed to perform both practical and thematic functions, dramatizing and reinforcing the educational experiences your children are having at Lawrence Academy.
Here are a few things to do and prepare for in advance…
Advisor meetings (Friday afternoon and evening): Advisors are looking forward to meeting with you to discuss your child's overall LA experience this fall.
Not sure which advisor session you're scheduled for? You received a confirmation email after you registered online earlier this month.
Can't find it? No worries! Staff members will be present to help and direct you. Please note: Students will not be present at the advisor meetings.
Session A: 3:00-3:20 p.m.
Session B: 3:25-3:45 p.m.
Session C: 3:50-4:10 p.m.
Session D: 4:15-4:35 p.m.
Session E: 4:40-5:00 p.m.
Session F: 6:00-6:20 p.m.
Session G: 6:25-6:45 p.m.
Session H: 6:50-7:10 p.m.
Session I: 7:15-7:35 p.m.
Session J: 7:40-8:00 p.m.
Before or after your advisor meeting, be sure to take a look around campus, stop in the Dining Hall, peruse the Conant Gallery, or stroll down Groton's beautiful Main Street.
Boarding Parent Dinner at Park House (Friday, 5:30 p.m. dinner at Park House): These are informal times to get together with other parents and with faculty for conversation, sustenance, and relaxation. We truly hope you will attend, as applicable, and as possible.
Coffee and dessert FOR ALL (7:00 p.m. in the Gray Building’s MacNeil Lounge):To be clear, both boarding and day families are invited to the coffee and dessert, which will precede an event we enthusiastically present this year, namely…
A Celebration of the Performing Arts (Friday at 8:00 p.m.): More than an energized occasion highlighting talented performance, this evening event will showcase the process of creation, practice, and imagination that lies at the heart of our educational program, both within and beyond the arts.
As a moment of both insight and inspiration, we hope you will make time for this event at the end of the first day of Parents’ Weekend.
Get up for classes (Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - Noon): We would only have Saturday morning classes in honor of parents! You are invited to experience a condensed version of our class schedule—an efficient and direct view into the teaching and learning process at the heart of your child’s education.
Over the next few weeks, your son or daughter will be meeting regularly (as always) with his or her advisor.
In anticipation of Parents’ Weekend, there may be details and logistics particular to individual family situations that present themselves. Many such questions can be channeled and addressed through this student-advisor contact or through email with your child’s advisor.
If there continue to be practical questions, our advisors are prepared to direct you to the appropriate parties in the school to help answer them. For technical questions regarding advisor sign-ups through the LAcademy.edu, please contact our webmaster.
When you arrive on campus, please come register in the Anderson Lobby inside the Gray building (marked with the big “Welcome” banner). You will receive a packet of useful information that will help guide you through the weekend. Until then, we hope you enjoy this turn of the season, and here’s hoping to see you very soon.
