Visual Arts at Lawrence Academy
Creating original art requires a basic understanding of the principles of design, the development of creative skills, and the ability to transform ideas and feelings into visual images. At Lawrence Academy, courses in drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia/video help students to discover and express what they think and feel about the world while teaching them how to create meaningful works of art

What is done in our classrooms is designed to encourage young artists to find their own "voice"—a unique artistic and intellectual identity—and to use this voice and their own experience to create original art. From the beginning level in Drawing to Honors Visual Art, each student is encouraged to develop the technique necessary to communicate his or her ideas artistically.

Concord Museum Exhibition
Lawrence Academy is honored to have been invited to display student photographs at the Concord Museum in collaboration with Annie Leibovitz’s exhibit on the theme of “Pilgrimage”. There will be an opening reception for parents and students on September 14 at 6:00. Photography teacher Laurie McGowan and Student Rebecca Wnuk attended the panel discussion with world renown photographer Annie Leibovitz and author Doris Kearn Goodwin this past summer. Fall photography students will get a chance to visit the exhibit this September.
Students Lily Jewell, Rebecca Wnuk, Nicole Crowe, Charlotte Jones, Katie Jones and Kaylyn Lai will be exhibiting.
Digital Photography goes national! Go to www.mappingmainstreet.org, type in Groton, MA, and see photos taken by the fall term Digital Photo Class. This is a National Public Radio Project, and the goal of the site is to document all the main streets in America. This was one of our many projects this trimester. Students’ names are in watermarks on their photos.
