Athletic Facilities
Built in 1993, the 41,000-square-foot Stone Athletic Center is designed and equipped to meet the needs of all students -- male and female -- for generations to come.
It houses an attractive lobby, two basketball courts, a volleyball court, a wrestling room, a climbing wall, a weight room and fitness facility, modern athletic training and rehabilitation facilities, as well as administrative offices and shower and locker space for home and visiting teams, coaches, and officials. Positioned beside the Grant Hockey Rink, it concentrates Lawrence Academy's athletic life around a dynamic two-building complex overlooking the school's lower playing fields.
The Grant Hockey Rink was built in 1977 to house the ultra-successful hockey programs for the boys and girls. Renovated three times in the last 6 years, it has been the home to some of the most memorable matchups in prep-school hockey during the last quarter century and has seen some of the best young hockey players hone their skills before stops in major college hockey, the Olympics, and the pros.
LA also has eight playing fields. Murbach field (completely refurbished complete with irrigation in 2009) Is the
home of the football and boys' lacrosse teams. The Spaulding-Stearns Athletic Complex, is the home of field hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and our "skinned" infield softball field. The Baker field (2005), campus site for our baseball team and boys' varsity soccer team, and Martin Field (2006), home for girls varsity soccer, form a beautiful new site for many teams located on Main Street in Groton below the campus hillside.
Lawrence has ten new tennis courts (2001, 2006). Four are located at the Baker Field and 6 are located on our Upper Campus behind the newly renovated Ferguson Building.
In addition to the academic dance program, dance is also offered as an athletic choice. The dance studio is located in the William Arts Center (1997).
