LA played hard in a tough loss to Belmont Hill. After a disappointing team effort against Rivers, the LA squad came ready to play on a windy fall day. Early in the match, midfielder Amadu Kunateh drove into the Belmont Hill box and sent a crossing pass to striker Aziz Khan, who was unfortunately unable to get a solid foot on the ball. Belmont Hill countered with a well-struck header, which slipped through our keeper’s hands to find the back of the net. Belmont Hill continued to press in the first half, but some strong defensive play by Matt Baldino marking in the back line kept the match within one goal.
LA had the wind in the second half and managed to mount more pressure on the Belmont Hill defense. We controlled possession with some strong midfield play from Christian Hernandez and Thomas Sar and gave Aziz Khan and forward midfielders Shawn Suzuki and Aaron Salm more chances to score. However, LA could not find our scoring touch. Belmont Hill was quick to counterattack, and late in the second half a perfectly crossed ball found a Belmont Hill forward, who was able to take advantage of the opportunity to score the match’s only other goal. Belmont Hill played some excellent defense to win 2-0.
