Event Recap: The Spartan nine defeated Brook’s School by a score of 2 - 1 on a soggy day in Groton, MA.
Senior captain Max Tishman turned in a solid work-man-like performance on the mound for LA to earn his fourth win of the season against a competitive Brook’s squad. In his six innings of work, Max gave up just three hits and no earned runs while striking out four and walking one. Senior captain Kevin Wnukowski pitched a perfect seventh to earn his fifth save.
With the score tied at 1 – 1 in the bottom of the fifth, junior Sean Mullaney reached on an error and then stole second. Senior captain Brady Burns followed with a base hit to right field scoring Sean to give LA a 2 – 1 lead that Max and Kevin would not relinquish.
Offensively, Brady and Max led the way for LA with two hits apiece. Junior Nick Day added an RBI single in the first.
Defensively, Sean turned in another stellar performance at shortstop. He made the clutch play of the game in the bottom of the sixth when he gunned out the Brook’s batter on a slow roller with a runner on third base to end the inning and preserve the lead for the Spartans.
This victory brings Lawrence Academy’s ISL record to 8 – 2 on the season. The team begins preparations for a non-league game away against Worcester Academy this Friday beginning at 4:30PM before returning to league play at home this Saturday against Roxbury Latin beginning at 12:30PM.
