Dear Alumni & Friends:

A school’s worth lies in the relationships between its people, and the constant in that relationship are the teachers who remain, year in and year out, ready to renew and replenish. I am pleased to introduce two LA teachers – Khalid Bashir and Michelle Ruby '98

Bashir & Ruby in action...Khalid Bashir arrived at LA right after graduating from Williams College. He spent his first year as an English teaching intern and admissions associate. Over the course of that year, Khalid realized that his true calling was the classroom, and LA hired him to teach English. A compassionate and warm-hearted teacher, advisor, and coach, Khalid quickly inserted himself into life on the Quad. Recently, he has brought his wit and wisdom to bear on the entire community through a Diversity Lunch Series he designed and co-runs with our Coordinator of Diversity Programs, Elkinsette Clinton. Khalid is also one of our leaders of new student orientation at Windsor Mountain.

Michelle has been teaching science at LA since 2003 and is a graduate of the Class of 1998. She, too, attended Williams College. After graduating, she worked in outdoor education for a year before returning to campus to join the faculty. Since then she has coached in the Outdoors Program, run new student orientation, led the girls’ JV hockey squad, and after a few years teaching science in the NGP, has kept our Environmental Science (formerly known as APES) courses alive and well and flourishing, and has maintained the Swamp (an area in the science wing) as a haven for students to hang out and study. Just this past year, Michelle was awarded the Departmental Chair for Excellence in Teaching.

I hope you will enjoy seeing these two talented teachers in action in our latest video.

From the hillside,

BTW:
Midterms close today, and we are gearing up for Parents’ Weekend next weekend followed by our fall long-weekend. The fall is flying by. If you can get to campus for a game or a performance, do stop by. All info is available on the LA website.
