Dear Alumni and Friends,
The turn of a new year is an opportunity for reflection, resolution, and growth. Here at LA, we are in the midst of all of the above! 2015 begins with work on improving our capacity to invite the world beyond LA onto our campus, as we put the finishing touches on our Media Conference Center and plan for a new entryway to campus which is being funded by the Senior Parent Gift. Be sure to visit the website to read all about the entry project. We hope to begin construction on this entryway in 2016.
Not only are we inviting the outside world in, but we are also setting aside time to dive into our inner worlds, engaging the school in a four-year study of the effects of mindfulness in an educational setting. Already, Dawa Phillips from the University of California Santa Barbara has been on campus several times, addressing faculty and students and preparing us to train in the practice of mindfulness with the hope that we will gain better focus, see an improved classroom climate, and enhance our general awareness and health. Dawa and his team at UCSB are working with the US Department of Education, which is helping to fund the project.
And finally we are preparing for Monday, January 19, Martin Luther King Day. In two weeks’ time, when I next write to you, we will have taken the time to celebrate and reflect on the life and teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in a full day of community service, workshops, and conversations. We still have a few slots available for LA alumni who might like to participate by joining LA Alumni Council members, students, and faculty in a service project on campus. Any LA alumni who want to join us on MLK Day, please let me know ASAP by hitting “Reply” to this email, and be sure to watch the recap of last year's activities.
As always, keep up with all things LA by following:

BTW: Following the momentum generated by our latest big events in Boston at Church and on campus with Brick Oven Pizza during the Holiday Tournament, we are headed to the TD Garden (January 19) where our girls’ and boys’ basketball teams will play [buy your tickets online here via Ticketmaster]. Coming up are visits to Denver (February 3), Los Angeles (February 5), Boston for a networking event (February 17), Aventura, Florida (March 15), Washington, DC (April 9), New York City (April 16), and, finally, Cotuit on Cape Cod (July 16). We hope that alumni, parents, and friends in these areas will join us. And, of course, we’d love to see everyone back on campus for Reunion on June 5-6! And one last teaser that I will tell you more about soon, heavy machinery has moved onto Terry Murbach Field to begin construction of a new turf field. We hope to have this project done by next September for play by our teams, especially field hockey and football. More to come soon...
