From an elm tree shaded hillside...

Dear Alumni & Friends:

As we open school for our 222nd year, I extend a hearty welcome to the alumni and friends of the LA community. This year, LA welcomes 401 students from 15 states and 18 different countries. Judging from the talented and diverse group that has already arrived for preseason athletics, for new student orientation, and for Proctor and Peer Counselor training, 222 promises to be one of LA’s best ever.

Every two weeks (or so), I will be writing to you to keep you closely connected to life here on the hillside. As my wife Laura and I head into our 32nd year at LA (…and our 30th year of marriage, we met here!), we realize that we have been at LA longer than we have been anywhere else in our lives. The strong sense of community at LA, along with its powerful educational mission, has kept us here, thriving and giving our all to this fine institution.

We have lots to look forward tothe first day of classes on Monday, September 8, and the enduring and unifying LA tradition of Mountain Day on Monday, September 15, where we all head up to Mt. Monadnock for our annual all-school climb to the summit. I’ll be back in touch to let you know how the first two weeks go.

BTW: I encourage all golfers to join us at the annual Gagné Winterim Classic at Concord Country Club on Monday, October 6, where we tee it up to raise much-needed funds for Winterim scholarships. This day of fun and camaraderie will make a difference for deserving LA students. For more information go to the Gagné Winterim Golf Classic information page. Hope to see you at the CCC!
