Dear Alumni & Friends:

With Winter Arts Showcase upon us and exams and Winterim just around the corner, I wanted to bring you another interview in our Championship Teachers series.

Brian Feigenbaum has been an iconic character at Lawrence Academy for the last twenty-three years. As a dance and history teacher and a Winterim leader, he connects deeply with LA students, often teaching them as much about how to make life decisions as he does about how to leap and turn. Alumni who have taken his classes always comment on the difference Brian has made in their lives. In fact, taking a dance class at LA has become a fixture on many students’ “bucket lists.” A veritable Renaissance man, Brian has a law degree; he has performed professionally as a dancer; he is an expert on John F. Kennedy, and he is part owner of a dance footwear company. I was able to catch up with Brian this week and talk with him about his teaching and his tenure at LA. I hope you enjoy this short interview.

Just as experiencing learning with Brian has been life-changing for LA students, so can be experiential-learning on Winterim. Every March, students and teachers have the opportunity to drop classroom learning for two weeks and immerse themselves in a project. This total immersion has huge positive effects. Once again, I’ll be headed to the Dominican Republic for Winterim with 16 students to work with the Mariposa Foundation. Our trip last year was so powerful that four students returned for a month-long internship last summer, and they are planning on returning again this summer.

After Winterim, we head out on spring break. So, I’ll be back in touch in April.

From the hillside,

Rob Moore
